Safety guidelines
Like most cities, river recreation companies like River Queen Voyages have safety guidelines and regulations in place to ensure that individuals participating in river recreation are doing so in a safe and responsible manner. This includes wearing life jackets, avoiding certain areas of the river, and following proper boating etiquette. A Kayaking 101 and safety tips are provided before each river adventure. Life jackets are required for all kayakers paddling with outfitters on the Cumberland River and rules are enforced by the TWRA.
Barge traffic management
The Cumberland River is a major throughway for barges and towboats helping to ship many materials around the country. A crucial industry, barge traffic is often managed and regulated to minimize the risk of accidents or injuries. This can include speed limits, navigation restrictions, and safety requirements for barge operators.
