10 of Nashville’s Black-Owned Businesses You Should Support This Month and Beyond!

In honor of Black History Month, we wanted to highlight just a few of Nashville’s many amazing Black-owned businesses. Full disclosure, we wrote this while hungry and cannot promise you, too, will not develop some raging cravings.

Is there a Nashville Black-owned business you love? Shout them out in the comments!

  1. BabyCake’s Nashville

BabyCake’s is a bit newer to the scene! Located in East Nashville, this delicious bakery is close to downtown and ready to make your tummy smile. BUT IT GETS BETTER: not only is BabyCakes an A+ choice to purchase your sweet treats, they also offer a variety of hands-on experiences, like their children’s cooking classes. Too cute! Looking to leave the kids at home? The BabyCake’s Bachelorette Party option looks like Top-Tier fun. The only thing better would be if it were hosted on our boat… (interested? reach out and see if we can make it happen.)

2. Shugga Hi Bakery & Cafe

While we’re on the topic, we can’t forget to mention Shugga Hi Bakery & Cafe. This sister-owned spot is located on bustling Dickerson Pike in East Nashville—just a stone’s throw from our marina and downtown headquarters! Their every day menu is any diner’s dream, but their Sunday Brunch is even MORE mouthwatering. Whether you’re planning a trip to Nashville, or you’re a local, we highly recommend adding Shugga Hi to your list. Maybe after working up an appetite on a morning Skyline Paddle? Sounds amazing to us!

3. Kernals Gourmet

With over 14 gourmet flavors, this family-owned East Nashville business thinks outside the [popcorn] box! If you haven’t tried (and likely become addicted to) Kernel’s Gourmet Popcorn, you need to fix that ASAP. There’s no time like the present— it just so happens to be “Nashville Hot Popcorn Week” through 2/25. Grab any of their hot chicken-inspired flavors at a discount with the code “HOTWEEK”.

4. A&M Marketplace

A&M Marketplace is a small, local grocery store located in the Nashville Farmer’s Market—but its mission sprawls far beyond those physical bounds. In addition to outreach projects abroad, A&M Market focuses on bringing accessible, fresh, local produce to the underserved food deserts of North Nashville. And if their lush produce wasn’t enough to rush you over to see them, maybe their proprietary Netas Natural Hair Products will! (…but if you still don’t want to leave home, don’t worry, you can shop Netas online.)

6. Riddim N' Spice

Want to feel like you’re in the Caribbean without getting on a plane? Get thee to North Nashville’s Riddim N Spice for great eats, and their Rum Room for great vibes. From their website: “With bbq jerk jackfruit for vegans and oxtails for Caribbeans missing home, there is a bevy of options to choose from. Build an island bowl or choose what to pile onto a plate, just make sure you order a fresh in-house island juice with your meal.” SIGN. US. UP.

“Made with sugar and soul in Nashville, TN” Hi-Fi Cookies is an absolute must try. Whether you check our their flagship location in East Nashville’s Shops on Porter Rd, pick some up at a number of local spots, or have an order shipped directly to you, you have no excuses to not give these out-of-the-box cookie creations a try. Flavors change constantly, follow Hi-Fi Cookies on Instagram to see what they’re cooking up today!

Psst… As of writing this, they’re hiring! Looks like a sweet gig.

8. Escape the Trap

Escape rooms are everywhere, but Escape the Trap is only in Nashville and Atlanta! This unique twist on a standard escape game was first built in the Trap Music Museum located in Atlanta, GA. We’re so excited they have expanded to Nashville and now called Jefferson St in North Nashville home! We cannot wait to take a team trip here and try our hands (fins?) at escaping the trap.

9. Waxing & Blading

For most people, getting waxed isn’t the most pleasant experience. But Sierra at Waxing & Blading in Antioch makes it as enjoyable as it can get! Dare we say, you might even look forward to her specialty speed-waxing. And that’s not all this beauty master does. Whether you need your eyebrows shaded, your skin refreshed, or something in between, Waxing & Blading is the self-care experience you need and, dare we say, deserve!
